Approx. 330 designers, operators, general contractors, service contractors, inspectors and scientists from 15 countries worldwide met to discuss, based on specialist presentations, the challenges of decommissioning as well as planning alternatives for individual decommissioning tasks. Beside a Pre-Conference-Workshop and the three-day conference program also an exhibition was arranged.

Aachen Institute for Nuclear Training (AiNT) organized the 6th. International Conference on Nuclear Decom-missioning at Eurogress Conference Center Aachen (Germany) from November 27th. – 30th. 2017.

Shutdown and decommissioning of nuclear facilities impose high requirements on all those involved regarding planning and approval activities. In the current decade, numerous nuclear power plants are being decommissioned in Europe and the rest of the world in consequence of their planned end of lifetime and political decisions. This fact requires optimized and mutually agreed decommissioning strategies. ICOND focusses on the legal framework in Germany, compares decommissioning strategies and takes a closer look at the different partial tasks of decommissioning.

Krantz took part in the congress with a highly recognized expert lecture on the topic of “Ventilation Concepts for Decommissioning of Nuclear Facilities”, held by the Sales Manager Dirk Thybussek. Various problems at different stages of decommissioning of nuclear facilities were discussed in the presentation. Also ventilation engineering solutions, based on Krantz technology, were shown. The long-term success of these technologies has been impressively demonstrated by means of many international reference examples, special the of problems due to moisture entry.

In addition to the lectures, the participants discussed solutions for various tasks in decommissioning of nuclear facilities at the booths of the exhibition. At this year’s contact booth, Krantz demonstrated the Recleanable Filter Technology. Furthermore, the participants had been able to visit the R & D center by means of virtual reality where they got an impression of various development projects of Krantz.
